MSM is an abbreviation for Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane. MSM is alsocalled organic or biological sulfur. This natural form of sulfur isfound in all living organisms and is present in our body fluids andtissues. It is found in many fresh foods including most fresh fruits andvegetables, milk and some grains. Even though it is present in freshfoods, it is easily destroyed in cooking, storing and processing whichmakes it a valuable supplement, especially for vegetarians as they mayhave a shortage of sulfur in their diets.
MSM has more recently become used as a dietarysupplement because of the outgrowth of research on the well-knownsubstance DMSO. MSM is a stable metabolite of DMSO, odorless and a veryefficient method for supplementation. Actually, MSM is equivalent toDMSO but contains an additional atom of oxygen, so it is actually DMSO2.
